Day 128 – 13/4/14 – Exmouth – Beasley River Rest Area WA

We had to be out by 10 and De had to do a few work things to follow up from my work day yesterday so us boys went fishing, throwing some lures around the marina. Amazingly enough we again managed to catch nothing!

I was already going to let the management know what I thought of their van park and then I went to have a shower and there was no hot water!! On the way out I politely (yes I was) mentioned to the reception that I didn’t think I got my $64 worth as the wifi didn’t work there wasn’t any grass and the showers were cold.

She smiled and said to each point in turn “Welcome to the North West”....so for everybody’s future knowledge don’t stay at the Ningaloo Caravan Park in Exmouth....ahhh that feels a lot better!

We had a pretty big drive in front of us as we were heading to Karajini National Park 650km+ west of us. We grabbed a few essentials not knowing what Tom Price’s (that’s the name of the town near Karajini) shopping facilities would be like. At around 11 we rolled out of town......and drove......and drove....and drove.

The main highway north was pretty much the same as per the last few 1000 kms but once we turned east the scenery changed with the red plains rising up into first rolling red sand hills then massive piles of rocks that looked as if they had been dumped there by a 1000t tip truck. Later red rocky cliffs shot out of rolling mountains. It was spectacular as the Spinifex is in good condition and the seed heads made them look like mounds of white snow of the rusty red earth. When you looked at the side of the hills the spinifex swaying in the breeze made it look as if your eyes were out of focus...quite weird really!

As the sun began to dip the reds and purple hughs of the sunset cast across to the eastern sky just made the landscape more spectacular.

We had met another couple, Mark and Amy from Berri , when we had lunch at a rest stop and had leap frogged them for the next 400km. They followed us into the rest area where we were staying and it wasn’t long before the cricket set was out and the boys had their new BFF!

We hadn’t achieved much but we had to be going early in the morning to get to Tom Price in time for the mine tour so it was an early lights out.
