The boys new where we were
heading.....it was nothing to do with the destination but what was
there....kids! Their abilty to help set up and pull down camp is proportional
to their desire to move on and it was off the scale today with things moving at
the speed of light.
Looking out over Kakadu |
We hit the road and pulled up at Mardugul Campground (Kakadu) just after
morning tea! We found Michelle and her three boys straight away and the boys
exhibited the direct opposite of their mornings effort! The bikes were off and
they were tearing around the camp within minutes of us arriving. We hung around
for a few hours with all of the boys finding a great new game....climbing to the
top of the water tower..about 20m high.. and hurling metal poles of
it.....great!!!
After lunch we packed up and
headed into the resort up the road. We checked out the cultural centre first
which was great giving a great insight into the traditional aboriginal way of
life. We then headed to the pool at the resort where all 5 boys had a great
time swimming, jumping and terrorizing the other resort ‘guests’.
After returning to camp the adults
had a quiet afternoon while the boys adorned themselves with headlamps and
torches and rode around in the black of night. The only problem was the horde,
swarm or squadron of mosquitoes that were attacking us. We had coils burning,
the other fancy strips smoking away and we were all bathed in bushman’s but we
were all still under attack! It took a while but we did manage to get the boys
to bed, but they had really enjoyed having some other kids to play with!
