The big effort of the day before resulted in a longer than
normal sleep in and I am hoping that we might have finally recovered from our
‘truck lag’ coming out of SA. De’s mum and sister are due in tomorrow so we did
a longer school session before heading off for a drive through some of the
forests.
The trees here are spectacular with many of them being 200, 300 or 400
years old. The Kari trees look like your regular gum trees, just that they have
been on steroids! We drove to the Bicentennial Tree for lunch and over last nights left overs we decided we were
all going to climb to the first lookout 25m up the 60m tree. However after ten or
so rungs De decided it wasn’t such a good idea! After a quick photo we retreated and headed back
to camp for a lazy afternoon.
It was relatively warm so the De and the boys jogged/rode
the 3km track to the Big Brook (read dam) swimming area where I met them with
the truck. We had a refreshing swim and while it wasn’t too bad in the water,
the second we were out any idea of me heading back on foot with the boys, in
our wet gear, vanished and we piled into the truck and cracked the heater to
full!
